What We Believe

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

Statement of faith

The following are the core beliefs of Lighthouse Bible Baptist Church based on the foundational truths taught in the bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.

God

We believe in one God who is eternally existent in three distinct persons (the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit), each with unique functions.

We believe that Jesus, the second person in the Trinity, became the physical manifestation of the Godhead. He was begotten of the Father, was born of a virgin and is both fully God and fully man. He is eternal and preexisted His creation.

We believe that Jesus lived a perfectly sinless life and willingly offered Himself as a sacrifice for our sins. He was Crucified, buried in a tomb, and physically rose from the dead prior to ascending into Heaven before numerous eye witnesses. He is the only mediator between God and man.

We believe that the Holy Spirit, the third person in the Trinity, is the agent of conviction, regeneration, sanctification, and the illumination of the Scriptures. He is not an impersonal force but is an eternal member of the Godhead who indwells and seals the believer.

The Bible

We believe that the Bible is the perfect and infallible Word of God and is the supreme and final authority for all matters of faith, doctrine, and life. We further believe that every word in Scripture was inspired by the Holy Spirit.

We believe that God has providentially preserved His Word through the ages and that Authorized Version (King James Version) is a precise and faithful translation of the Word of God into English. Moreover, we believe that the King James Version is the Bible that God has given to the English-speaking people and is superior to all other English translations.

Mankind

We believe that man was created in the image of God, distinct from the animals, and was originally innocent and sinless. However, man’s sin resulted in both physical and spiritual death as well as alienation from God. Only by receiving the redemption purchased by Jesus Christ on the cross can he be reconciled to God. We believe that man is not a child of God by birth, but is made a child of God through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.

We believe that God, in His love and sovereignty, has given man a free will.

Salvation

We believe that one is saved by the grace of God through faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the Cross and that there is nothing one can do to merit his or her salvation. It is a free gift offered to all.

We believe that when a saved person dies, he or she will go immediately to the presence of the Lord because they have accepted his gift of salvation. We also believe that when an unbeliever dies, he or she will go immediately to a place of torment known as Hell because they have rejected His pardon for their sin.

The Church

We believe that the church, as a whole, is composed of all born-again believers who have, by faith, accepted Jesus Christ as their personal savior. We also believe that God has instituted the local church as a critical part of the Christian life. It is a local group of believers under the spiritual leadership of a Pastor where a believer can mature in their walk with the Lord, serve others, and grow in their knowledge and understanding of the Scriptures.

We believe that God has instituted two ordinances for the local Church, baptism (after salvation) and the Lord’s Table. We believe that neither of these are essential to salvation but are simply acts of obedience.

We believe that the church is distinct from Israel and does not replace or supersede her in God’s plan. We believe that the church and Israel have unique origins, unique purposes, and unique destinies.

Eternal Security

We believe that when a person gets saved, he is sealed by the Holy Spirit and cannot lose his salvation.

Eschatology

We hold to a literal, pre-tribulation, pre-millennial view of eschatology and believe that Jesus Christ will take (or “rapture”) His church up to heaven before He judges the world in a 7-year period of time known as the tribulation. We believe that the rapture is imminent.

Creation

We believe that the Genesis account, in it’s entirely, is to be taken literally and historically. We therefore believe that God created the heavens, the earth, and everything that is in them in six, 24-hour days, approximately 6,000 years ago. We also believe that He destroyed the world with a flood, preserving terrestrial life through an Ark and that this flood is evidenced throughout the world in the fossil record and in geologic strata.
